Elayne Bennett, Founder and President of the Best Friends Foundation, is the first in a series of speakers presented by Regina High School. Mrs. Bennett will address the importance of working together to make good choices in the teen years on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. The event will take place in the Regina High Auditorium. . Admission is $10.00 for adults; $5.00 for students under 18.
Mrs. Bennett will offer a healthy reality check as she shares her insights on the importance of character education and the value of helping youth make good decisions, especially regarding sexuality, the use of alcohol and other chemicals or drugs.
Best Friends Foundation is a non-denominational, a-political organization that helps roughly 5,000 adolescent girls (grades 4-12) in 26 cities and 90 schools nationwide find "self-respect through self-restraint." Mrs. Bennett is the 2000 recipient of this nation's prestigious American Institute of Public Service's "Jefferson Award." The award was presented to Ms. Bennett for her work in mentoring and encouraging adolescent girls. Best Friend's mission is simple - encourage girls - through peer support, adult mentoring and enlightenment - to abstain from drugs, alcohol and sex.
Mrs. Bennett is the wife of Bill Bennett, former Secretary of Education and current radio and television host.
