Freshmen Learn, Serve, and Lead
at Class Retreat

Regina’s freshman class recently spent a day getting to know each other and forming class unity on their first high school retreat. Held at the Rookery in Geauga County on October 15, the retreat blended aspects of leadership and team-building with spirituality and faith.

“It was what the freshmen needed to bond,” said Lora Winger, theology teacher and head of the retreat program. “They made new friends and got to know each other better. This year our combination of leadership and spirituality was very successful.”

Under the guidance of Ms. Winger, the retreat was planned and organized by a small group of seniors, including Hadleigh Richards `09. “We got to plan the entire event, start to finish,” she said. “It was worthwhile to see all of our efforts and energy being transferred to the underclassmen. It was an amazing experience!”

The retreat included a variety of activities, including a race in scavenger-hunt style, a team member directing a blindfolded team in various tasks, and using chewing gum to sculpt a team mascot.  To conclude the day, each freshman designed a T-shirt that displayed her personal strengths and the affirmation of her classmates.

“I thought it was going to be boring with a lot of praying,” said Leena Clint ’12. “But we had some really cool activities. Plus the seniors were nice and the food was good!”

Response from the class of 2012 was very positive.  “I would do it again!” said Rachel Gehlfuss `12. Autumn Walter ‘12 added, “It was a lot of fun. It really brought us closer together.”
