Regina Team Returns to Mississippi
to Assist in Katrina Relief Efforts

Thirty-seven Katrina Relief volunteers spent the last week of June doing service in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

This is the third consecutive year that a group from Regina has assisted in Katrina Relief efforts. The intergenerational group consisted of 11 Regina students, 11 recent Regina graduates, 4 more seasoned Regina alum, and 7 friends of Regina.  Despite the 100+ temperatures and the influx of sand-fleas, they were able to assist with the painting and landscaping of several city parks, the laying of the foundation for a home, the repair of the walls and windows of a temporary church, and the exterior and interior painting of a newly constructed home. More important than the tasks accomplished, were the people they encountered during our stay.  The faith and resilience of the parishioners of Our Lady of the Gulf and St. Clare’s was tangible.  The rebuilding is VERY slow, but the spirit of the people is steadfast.
