Clown Ministry Performs
Stations of the Cross

The Clown Ministry, Regina's clown troupe that performs signing and choreography with a spiritual nature, recently staged the Stations of the Cross. For twenty-four years, members have been acting out the Stations of the Cross to raise money for an array of charities. The Ministry works hard helping other through its involvement in activities such as visiting nursing homes and volunteering at hunger centers. Clowns are also involved in community events like carnivals. Wherever they go, our clowns always make a positive impact on other’s lives.

Marylou Beers, the narrator of Stations of the Cross, has been participating in Clown Ministry for nearly twelve years. Through Clowns, she feels that she gets closer to Jesus and that she is in continuous prayer, along with being surrounded by faith-filled young men and women. Mrs. Beers loves everything about Clown Ministry but her favorite part is the song, “We Beseech Thee,” because it helps to strengthen her belief that “with all death, new life comes.”

New to Clown Ministry this year are four young men.. Dave Bertch, a senior at Benedictine, took on the role of Jesus, thought at first he would only have a minor part and was taken aback when asked to play the part of Jesus Christ. Through this Ministry he has strengthened his faith in God. Anthony Lelli, a senior at Benedictine, one of the three soldiers, commented that Clown Ministry was a great experience and enjoyable to participate in. Patrick Chounet, a senior at Benedictine, another solider, said that he got joy out of helping others through playing an active role in Clown Ministry. Brian Devers, a senior at Benedictine, also played a solider, never thought that he would take a role in this amazing opportunity. He enjoys being a part of something that is more then just a show, but a chance to reach out to others and send a religious message out to others.

Erin Chesser, a senior member of Clown Ministry, has been active in the troupe since she was a freshman. She joined the Ministry because she saw a performance when she was in 8th grade and it impacted her life, causing her to see that she wanted to help others. Her favorite part is watching the solo acts being performed during Stations of the Cross. Her biggest challenges in being a part of Clown Ministry are the intensive three-hour practices and learning the choreography of the dances. She explained that a lot of time and dedication is put into perfecting the acts so that the performance is to the best of their abilities. Lastly, she strongly recommends that others join so that the Clown Ministry can continue their mission of helping others.

Through their dedication, time commitment, and determination to spread the word of God, Clown Ministry continues to play an active role in society through their devoted mission of helping those in need.
